I play WoW, but I don't play like that guy. I hear stories about people that neglect their children over games similar to WoW and I can't help but wonder how people can let themselves become that pathetic.
Kuga, you're a recovering WoWaholic. I hope you got your 90 Days Sober chip at the last meeting. Don't get cocky; that's how they all fall off the wagon. Next thing you know you'll be skipping showers and eating nothing but Ramen noodles in front of your PC at 4 in the morning. One day at a time.
WoW (while it was fun when it was new and fresh, I guess some of this can be attributed to the fact that I previously played Everquest/Camelot quite intensively) killed my interest of MMO's in general. If I ever play a pay-to-play MMO again it better completely re-invent the genre & nothing less. Really do regret wasting all that time doing busy-work instead of actually having fun. Games like TF2/Portal in particular have restored my faith in the modern PC FPS. Fun is the bottom line.
Oh, I read Kuga as saying that he quit WoW three months ago, not War3 [several] months ago.
ex-jedi, I've thought before to myself when changing clothes, "which shirt should I equip?", and I've asked my brother "but do we have enough mats for three dozen cookies?".
Have you given their free trials a try? I was personally very against pay-to-play games before I started playing WoW, but I've since spent about 1500 hours playing their game. It might not be for everyone, but I'm glad that I got converted to the MMO side. I have since tried other MMOs, but most kept me wondering "why can't they do [insert gameplay element here] like WoW?"
Obviously, Blizzard is making crazy amounts of money off of this, and kudos to them. It was well worth $15/month for me, and I'd recommend it to anyone with enough free time to make it worthwhile. I probably averaged 4-6 hours per day over my whole subscription, and that felt worth it, for me. Definitely a better value than going to see a movie, and I think you can get WoW and the Burning Crusade expansion for $40 now (and that should include a month subscription).
Seriously, download the trial. I think there's something for everyone, whether you want to take it easy, or spend every waking hour playing, or just explore this vast universe Blizzard has created. There is a lot to experience, a lot of Warcraft lore... a lot of everything. If you're into War3 at all, at least give WoW a try.
Why didn't they white balance that video? Jesus, it looks like it was balanced for 2800 degrees Kelvin... oh, did I just geek out? Damn. Well, at least I've never played WOW or any other MMO. Take that!
Anyone and everyone in and around Southern California, make sure you attend the largest Sifter meet up ever this Saturday, Jan 10, 2009 at 4:00pm in Los Angeles!
Upvote.

I'm not sure I care for the video though - good idea, but meh.

...and no MMO's aren't appealing to me either. dunno why.
