I see your point about the Muhammad cartoons, but you have to understand that is a different situation as depicting Prophet Muhammad in any sort of painting or picture, or even a movie is not allowed.
I don't accept that. I understand that it makes some Muslims unhappy, but that does make it okay for them to scream for the death of anyone that breaks their religion's laws. And that means that people should be doing the exact opposite of trying to appease them.
Even if I think that it is a shameful show of cowardice on the part of the producers to not show the cartoons if they really are afraid of being murdered, that at least is an understandable fear. Realistically, though, I doubt that that is their worry. I think they're just worried about generally upsetting the Muslim people.
trouble is, people have different definitions of God, and atheist assholes love to use the stupidest definition, and then to attack everybody in sight before they realise what's actually being talked about.
I think that The Invisible All-Merciful Man That Will Consign You to a Fiery Pit of Eternal Torment If You Don't Believe In Him concept of god is pretty damn prevalent in our society. And that single "stupidest definition" of God is singled out to be railed against because, well, it's the most dangerous one.
There does seem to be a lot of collateral damage, though, I agree. I won't say that I agree with it, but the over-reaction is understandable considering that in the United States "atheists" are traditionally one of the most-hated least-trusted "minorities."
Are you fucking serious? They play all of those racist, sexist and pedophilia jokes, and they wouldn't show the cartoons of Muhammad? And this was within minutes of the Brits being self-congratulatory about how quick they were to make jokes about the Tube bombings?
Jesus. I weep for the world. The second to last guy had the right of it. You do not have the right to not be offended!
Also: To all of the "if only they could have had guns!" and "if they could have guns, then the killer would have a gun, too!" people: Wasn't this in Canada? Aren't there totally tons of guns in Canada? There aren't as many as in the US, but it looks like they're still plenty available. If this guy had wanted to have a gun, he probably would've had a gun.
^ Let me state straight off that I have no problem with guns. I have a gun. A gun would not have made this situation turn out any differently. The guy still would've had a giant knife shoved into him, probably many times before anyone could or would have drawn. He would still, most likely, be dead.
The difference is that maybe the killer could have been stopped from completely decapitating the guy. And, at the same time, you'd have someone with a firearm trying to point it at a knife-wielding maniac while 34 other people rushed by him to get off the bus. That seems like an awesome opportunity to accidentally shoot a bystander. I honestly can't imagine that a gun would've caused this situation to come out any differently--or at least any better.
